Do’s and Don’t of Skiing

Sliding your skies on snowy regions needs some etiquette to stay safe and have more fun. If you consider some basic skiing etiquette i.e. some basic do’s and don’ts while going out for skiing, then it helps to reduce the risk of any injury or other possible risk. Let’s get started by discussing some do’s and don’ts, which are as follows:

DO’S:

DO TAKE PROPER LESSONS:
If you are a new-bie, it’s always suggested to take some lessons, which helps you to learn how to slide your skies, how to stop, how to take turns, how to maintain balance, etc. In short, you’ll get to know the basics of sliding your skies with those lessons. If your basics are clear, it gets easier for you to learn and enjoy skiing. It’s best to start skiing by taking a couple of proper lessons from the instructor. Just attend those lessons properly, learn the skills and you are all ready to slide on those snowy mountains. With some patience and practice, you’ll improve your skiing skills. The more practice you do, the more you improve your skills.

HAVE A CLEAR PICTURE OF YOUR TRAIL BEFORE YOU GO:
Snowy mountains can get risky especially when you step out from the specified region. So it was always suggested to have a clear picture of the boundaries of the specified region, which gets to protect you from the deep and steeper slopes. And it’s also good to carry the trail map with you so that in case you lost your way, the map can help you get back to your point. Also, get to know from the instructor about the areas that are risky and should be strictly avoided for skiing. Choose the area very wisely to stay safe while sliding down the snowy mountains.

STOP AT A SENSIBLE PLACE:
While skiing if you just stop anywhere in-between the track, you may get hit by the other skiers that are coming behind you. So, when you need to stop somewhere while skiing, do stop at a sensible place. If you stop in-between the trail, then the chances of collision with the other skier are more. So better to stop at the side of the track, where you can be visible from above and even won’t be an obstacle for other skiers. Do consider this little tip by considering your and other skier’s safety.

DO HANDLE YOUR SPEED:
Even you are a beginner or an expert, always slide by maintaining the speed as per your ability. Because if you slide too fast, then there is more chance of getting imbalance, collision with other skiers, or may get out from the specified track. So while skiing, you should have your skies under your control. And do learn to control the speed of your skies if you are a beginner. The more practice you do, the more you get the balance on your body and control on your skies. And if you are an expert, then do control your speed by considering other skier’s (less-experienced) safety. Just control your speed to stay safe while skiing.

DRESS PROPERLY:
Proper dressing is a must to stay warm and comfortable while skiing because you can’t ski properly with chilled hands and legs. Also wear good-fitted shoes with proper bindings, upper wear in layers, proper clothing, helmet, goggles, gloves, etc. It not only helps you stay warm but also impacts your performance. So make sure, all your essentials make you comfortable so that you enjoy more while skiing. Even the weather looks pleasant when you step out from your place for skiing, better to dress for the bad weather condition.

BE IN YOUR SPECIFIED REGION:
Always select the region as per your safety and ability. Better to stay on the specified track while enjoying skiing. Even if you want to try skiing in some other region, do check the safety of skiing in that region and should go in a group rather than being alone. So that you’ll get the help in case you have any mishappening. Be practical and select the place wisely. And don’t compromise your safety over your temptation for adventure.

DON’TS:

DON’T TRY SKI-STUNTS WITHOUT TRAINING:
If you are not well trained yet, then better to not try any stunts on your own, as it can cause injury. So for that, first of all, try to expertise normal skiing through practice. Then get it learned from the instructor. The instructor will teach you how to use your feet/foot to perform stunts, how to maintain balance while landing and when/where to stop. With expert guidance, you’ll get to know the technique to perform stunts safely on the snowy mountains.

DON’T CUT THE LIFT LINES:
Even though the lift line is too big and you have to wait for the lift for longer, just always wait for your turn and don’t cross it. Crossing the lift line signifies your time is more important and doesn’t have any value for others, which is very unacceptable behavior. So, always respect and value others, just like you want it for yourself, and be polite and friendly with others.

DON’T MESS UP THE PLACE:
Just throw your disposable teacups, beer cans, or any other stuff anywhere on the snowy mountains. Show your etiquette and dispose of it in a bin, as there are many bins nearby. So just don’t throw anything here and there. Don’t mess up this beautiful place of snowy mountains with your litter. Always dispose of your garbage in a bin and keep your surroundings clean.

DON’T SLIDE VERY CLOSE TO SOMEONE:
If you slide very close to some other skier, then you may get easily hit or strike by other skiers. So always maintain some distance with other skiers while sliding on these snowy mountains, especially if you are a beginner. Simply, give yourself and other skiers some space, enjoy your slide and have fun.

Do consider these little things to stay safe and enjoy your skiing experience. Hope this article will help you get to know about what you should do and what you shouldn’t while going out skiing.
